Charlie Chambers was born and raised in Cherbourg, a community located 177km north west of Brisbane, QLD.
His Aboriginal tribal heritage is Kiullill and Kookimijii.
His art is inspired by the country where he grew up and the stories passed on to him by the elders of the Cherbourg community.
His art glows with colours of his country: the ochre’s, blacks gold's and whites of the earth. "In my work I try to teach stories of what was taught to me and was passed down from generation to generation". He uses both techniques of dot work and cross hatching in his painting. The dot style comes from his Mother’s tribe who came from Western Queensland and the cross hatch style is from his Father's people who were a north Queensland tribe.
All of Charlie’s art tells the story of his culture and tribal dreaming. His work also takes on an additional dimension of reawakening his people and the broader white society to the depth and value of Aboriginal traditions.
As well as painting, Charlie spends a lot of time in schools as well as in prisons teaching both children and inmates stories of the Dreamtime and the importance of cultural maintenance.
Charlie has exhibited extensively, bottionally and Overseas, and has won numerous art awards.
